DULUTH, MN. (KBJR) - In Romano Gymnasium, on Tuesday afternoon the number 14 UMD volleyball team was practicing and preparing for the grind of the NSIC which is officially upon them.

The lady Bulldogs have been outstanding in their last 8 matches, rounding out the preseason with a perfect record, which inevitably gives them quite a bit of momentum heading into the first week of conference play.

While the NSIC is pinned as the most competitive conference in all of Division II, UMD’s offensive performance has proven to be a force to be reckoned with. They average 15 kills per set which ranks at the top ten in the county, hitting a .275. Head coach Jim Boos said it’s fun to see a full-fledged offense again and likes the direction they’re headed.

“Across the board, the number of kills and the number of attempts that our offense has, is about as balanced as we’ve been probably since 2014 and that’s really where we want to live, that’s what we want to be about. We want to make sure there’s no real prediction or predictability with what we do offensively,” said Boos.

“Last year we struggled with being terminal and just having that aggressive mentality, so I think these last couple weekends we did a great job of taking big swings in big moments and not making errors to keep the pressure on the other team,” said Lanoue.

This weekend UMD opens up conference play on the road with U-Mary and Minot State.
