DULUTH, MN-- City leaders have named the Duluth Police Department’s new interim chief.

Deputy Chief Laura Marquardt will serve in the position until the department makes a permanent hire.

Marquardt has worked for the Duluth Police Department for 27 years.

“I am honored to be asked to serve in this capacity and to lead this department as we transition to hiring a new Police Chief,” Marquardt said. “This department is overflowing with talented and dedicated individuals who serve our community every single day. I am incredibly grateful to be part of this innovative and collaborative team for the last 27 years.”

Mayor Emily Larson said she believes the city is in good hands as the hiring process unfolds.

Deputy Chief Marquardt will replace Chief Mike Tusken on an interim basis effective Monday, August 1, 2022.

Chief Tusken announced his retirement in June after serving since 1992.
