DULUTH, MN. (KBJR) - There’s an exciting new option for sports fans in West Duluth.

The Wheeler Athletic Complex held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday to celebrate some major improvements to the sports facility.

Some of the newly completed upgrades include a sport court replacement, dugout improvements, and restroom renovations.

According to officials, they’re also in the process of completing work on bocce ball courts.

The complex is open to the public.

City officials encourage people to utilize this community resource, whether it’s part of an organized league or an informal game.

“So we’re looking forward to seeing more people playing again at Wheeler, more opportunities and more organized activities, and opportunities for fun casual pick-up play with friends and family,” Jessica Peterson, Parks and Recreation Manager for the City of Duluth.

Funding for the projects at Wheeler came from several places, including the Minnesota DNR’s outdoor recreation program, St. Louis County, and local softball and pickleball associations.
