Become a loon survey volunteer; DNR looking to collect data in six regions
MINNESOTA-- For those who love loons and care about their health and numbers, this could be the job for you.
For more than 20 years, hundreds of volunteer observers have helped the DNR gather information about common loon numbers on more than 600 lakes located within six regions throughout the state.
The Minnesota Loon Monitoring Program need monitors in Aitkin/Crow Wing, Becker, Cook/Lake, Itasca, Kandiyohi, and Otter Tail counties.
Long-term data helps detect changes in the loon population and identify potential management needs.
If you’re spending time in lake country between July 2-12 and have one morning to volunteer, check out the volunteer map.
