New ‘Dock at the Depot’ event gives cruise ship passengers, locals broad taste of Twin Ports
DULUTH, MN -- The Duluth Depot launched a new event Monday, aimed at giving cruise ship passengers and locals a broader taste of the Twin Ports on a tight schedule.
When the Viking Octantis made her first voyage to Duluth on Memorial Day, her 400 passengers had a chance to explore a handful of attractions on the North Shore.
But, the St. Louis County Depot and Historical Society says they realized the visitors have limited time and distance to travel during the day they’re in town.
So they created an event called “Dock at the Depot,” which launched Monday on the ship’s second trip to Duluth.
It’s a pop-up experience featuring local food, beverages, clothing, jewelry and more, all right at the Depot.
They hope it will give visitors a chance to take in more of the Zenith City.
“They really want to engage with the community and they only have a limited time to do it so we really wanted to meet them where they were,” said Depot Director, Mary Tennis.
“Dock at the Depot” will be held on from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the following Mondays when the Viking Octantis cruise ship is in town: June 27, July 25, August 8, August 22, September 5, and September 19
