Heat Advisory issued as heat wave brings near triple-digit heat indexes Sun. & Mon.

TONIGHT: Scattered chances of showers are possible tonight as the strong warm front bringing in the heat wave will move over the Northland during the overnight hours. Nothing severe is expected with the incoming showers. The rain should be done shortly after sunset with clouds sticking around for most of the evening hours. Winds will continue to be from the east between 5-15 mph. Lows will fall to the lower 50s, but temperatures will begin to increase quickly shortly before sunrise.

TOMORROW: Almost everyone will begin to see a dramatic increase in temperatures and humidity through the day as the warm air slowly moves in from the west. Areas like Itasca, Koochiching, and Aitkin County will see the biggest increase in temperatures and humidity, enough for the NWS to issue a Heat Advisory for those counties until Sunday night at 9:00 P.M. Heat indexes in those counties could reach near triple digits. With the heat continuing into Monday, more counties are expected to be under the advisory by Monday morning. Early showers are possible for the Arrowhead region, parts of Wisconsin, and the UP Sunday morning. For Duluth, highs will reach the lower 80s with winds changing direction from the east to the south by the afternoon between 10-15 mph.

MONDAY: The brunt of the heat wave will arrive on Monday for the Northland where everyone will see highs in the 80s and 90s, even near the lake. With the winds coming in from the south, Duluth will not be saved by the lake. Heat index will be in the upper 90s so more than likely, the heat advisory will be expanded to include everyone. There is a chance for afternoon to evening showers as a cold front moves in. The cold front will move fast enough to prevent the 80s and 90s. Monday will be mostly sunny with scattered clouds by the afternoon. Lows will fall to the lower 70s with humid conditions.
