DULUTH, MN. (KBJR) - Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has not been a Northern Minnesota girls high school all-star game.

A group of hockey community members have come together to change that in 2022, organizing a late but what they call “overlooked” event for the top girls hockey players in the area.

The Northern Minnesota Girls High School Hockey All-Star game will be on Monday, May 30 in Proctor at the St. Luke’s Sports and Event Center. There is no official ticket fee, but they will be collecting food donations for local food shelves and CHUM.

The effort was organized in part by Ryan Coole, the general manager of the Northern Elite Development Program.

Kern & Kompany, the group that organizes the boys high school all-star game, has plans of taking over the girls game in 2023. Entering their 23rd year, they plan to hold the girls game on the same night as the boys game next March, after the conclusion of the state tournaments. They will continue to host future all-star events at the Essentia Heritage Sports Center.
