Duluth FC holds signing event ahead of season opener
DULUTH, MN. (KBJR) - Match week has finally arrived for Duluth FC.
The Bluegreens held a preseason media event at St. Luke’s Hospital to display some of their players for the upcoming season. Some had just arrived from various countries around the world, including Ukraine and South Africa.
They’ll hold daily practice ahead of their season opener on the road this Saturday in St. Louis Park.
We’ve got a really short window to work with them and get practice in before we start games, and just trying to get people gelled as quickly as we can,” said head coach Sean Morgan.
Coach Morgan also noted that it’s a critical period in time for them because they don’t have as much time to prepare as other teams in the NPSL North. Specifically, their rival Minneapolis City spends much of the year training together, a luxury that Duluth does not have.
“I think the first couple weeks or two definitely will define the season, definitely just getting to know some of the guys, we have a good number of returners and stuff, so I think we can bring what the club is about to those new guys,” said returning defenseman Scott Wilson.
“It’s integrating with those new guys, getting them with what the club is all about the standards that we set.”
They’ll aim to rebound from a second-place finish in the NPSL North last summer, with hopes of returning to the top of the standings.
Kickoff on Saturday between Duluth FC and Joy Athletic Club is set for 7:00p.m. on Saturday night. For the full Duluth FC schedule, click here.
