2022 ‘Love Your Block’ Duluth mini-grant applications now available
DULUTH, MN-- The City of Duluth will be one of only eight communities in the country to receive a blight grant, also known as “Love Your Block.”
This allows for external funds and community resources to address residents’ concerns about abandoned waste, illegal dumping, and poorly maintained homes and infrastructure.
“Our Department receives blight complaints all the time,” Otis said. “We know that blight removal in the form of illegal dumping is something that Duluthians really care about. This grant opportunity is crucial in providing us with a new tool in our toolbox to address these complaints and illegal behavior.”
Applications for the first round of grant funding are due on June 3, 2022.
Residents can apply for up to $1,500 to fund a neighborhood improvement project like neighborhood clean ups, installing public art, celebrating neighborhood project completion, creating a system for reducing abandoned waste, or repurposing vacant lots as active community spaces.
The City would be able to hire a fellow position and one AmeriCorps VISTA member to coordinate the program, which provides $40,000 in mini-grants for a total of $100,000.
Duluth residents can attend upcoming information sessions.
May 14 – 9:00 - 10:00 a.m.
May 16 - 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.
May 17- 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.
