Duluth Councilor Arik Forsman announces run for Minnesota House
DULUTH, MN-- Duluth City Councilor Arik Forsman announced Wednesday he will run for Minnesota House’s newly drawn District 8B.
Forsman currently holds an At-large seat on the council since appointed in 2018 and was elected to the same post in 2019.
“Serving the people of Duluth on the City Council has been the honor of my life. I am thrilled to announce my campaign to serve District 8B residents in a new way and hope to earn the opportunity to work tirelessly for them in the Minnesota House of Representatives,” said Forsman.
He’s the current council President and chairs the Committee of the Whole.
Forsman also represents the council as a board member for the 1200 Fund, Spirit Mountain, and Visit Duluth.
He previously chaired the council’s Public Works, Personnel, and Recreation, Libraries & Authorities committees.
Arik grew up in Aurora, MN, and moved to Duluth to attend UMD.
This announcement comes just days after Rep. Jen Schultz announced she would not seek reelection for the seat in the fall.
Rep. Schultz served four terms representing the eastern half of Duluth.
As of Wednesday, Forsman is the first one to publicly announce his campaign.
