Thousands gather at the DECC Friday with limited parking
DULUTH, MN. (KBJR) - With multiple events happening at the DECC on Friday, finding a parking spot was much more difficult than usual in Canal Park.
According to DECC officials, the First Robotics Regional Competition is happening at their venue this weekend.
To accommodate that, they had to close off a section of their parking lot.
By 3:30 p.m. on Friday, 75% of the parking at the DECC was full.
That raised a lot of concerns as thousands of people made their way to Amsoil Arena to watch the UMD Men’s hockey team play Saint Cloud Friday.
DECC officials said even on busy nights, there are still ways to make sure you find a parking spot in time for the big game, but you need to plan ahead.
“If you really want to park at the DECC, which is super convenient, you need to come early. Otherwise, you can park at Canal Park. There are a few lots there and there are several lots downtown where you can pick up the skywalk,” said Lucie Amundsen, the DECC’s Director of Communications.
DECC officials recommend getting to the area about 45 minutes to an hour before the game to find a parking spot and get into the building.
