SUPERIOR, WI (KBJR) - On Thursday night in Superior, there was a special send-off for a Northlander who’s headed to the Olympics.

Before curling legend John Shuster travels to Beijing, supporters gave him a drive-by caravan of well wishes and good luck.

Shuster will leave for the Olympics Friday, and due to COVID safety protocols, he was keeping his distance from supporters.

Shuster says he’s ready to go and wished he could have gotten a little closer to thank his supporters.

“It’s obviously a bummer that the pandemic has made it where we can’t give everybody hugs and high fives, but that was very very cool,” said John Shuster, Olympic Curler.

Shuster won gold at the 2018 Olympics.

The 2022 Winter Olympics will start Friday, February 4th and continue through February 20th.
