Family members of children in the care of two foster homes joined together outside the Carlton County courthouse Tuesday.

They say two women are caring for 10 Native children and subjecting them to emotional and physical abuse.

Pictures ands video posted to Facebook back up their claims, as do accounts from other former foster kids raised by the two women.

The families say around 20 past victims have come forward.

Despite the evidence, the children remain in the homes.

The families say they won’t stop fighting to ensure their safety.

“Every child does matter and the children who are in that home right now, they matter to us, they matter to their community, and regardless of their parents’ past mistakes, they matter to the parents,” said Taysha Martineau, aunt to some of the children in foster care.

The families want the Fond du Lac Band, Cloquet Police, Carlton County Attorney, and Carlton County Human Services to remove the children from the home.

Cloquet police issued a statement, saying they are investigating and are following protocols to keep the children safe.

They say they’re working with the Band and Carlton County authorities.

KBJR 6 is not naming the women running the foster homes because they haven’t been charged.
