DULUTH, MN. (KBJR) - Another dream come true on the ice in Bulldog Country. UMD’s senior All-American defenseman and captain, Ashton Bell, has officially been named to the Canadian Olympic team for the first time after spending time with the team for the last five months.

Bell will represent Canada as one of seven defensemen, a position she has played for only two and a half years, and will join the team in Beijing next month, becoming the fifth-ever Bulldog to earn a spot with Team Canada.

She will also be skating alongside a familiar face. Former Bulldog and All-American Defensemen Jocelyne Larocque will make her third appearance in the winter games. Larocque has built a very decorated Olympic resume with a gold and a silver medal for the red and white.

The Olympics is no foreign environment for the UMD women, as a total of five former players will gear up on Olympic ice in this year’s games, with a few more still likely to make an Olympic roster.
