DULUTH, MN. (KBJR) - DULUTH, MN -- It was an Essentia Health takeover at Bentleyville as staff members worked to make sure no one goes hungry this holiday season.

Essentia set a goal to double the amount of food that is usually donated at the holiday light display.

On a typical night, Bentleyville receives about 300 pounds in food donations which are then distributed to the Duluth Salvation Army and to families across the region.

Despite the cold Thursday night, hearts were warm as donations poured in.

“We’ve got a long tradition of giving back to support hungry families,” said Tonya Loken, Community Relations Manager for Essentia. “We understand how important it is to keep your family fed and this just seems like such a happy time of year and this is such a special place and we wanted to raise the visibility of the food shelves.”

If the 600-pound goal is reached, Essentia representatives said they will add a $5,000 donation to Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank in Duluth.
