SUPERIOR, WI. (KBJR) - Indigenous students at UWS showcased traditional Native games and their connection to the region Tuesday.

The Native Nations Students Organization hosted the event.

It featured lesser known Ojibwe games, like the Moccasin game, alongside better known games like lacrosse.

Organizers also talked about the role the games play in the Native community.

For example, organizer Dillion Krisik said lacrosse was used to solve problems.

“It’s called the ‘little brother of war’ because to resolve those big conflicts that might result in war, we would play lacrosse instead,” said Krisik, who is the President of the Native Nations Students Organization.

Organizers say they hope to make the games showcase a yearly event.
