Lights, camera, action!: Watch special preview of ‘Annie’ by Duluth Playhouse
DULUTH, MN. (KBJR) - Theatre is back in full swing and with the holidays upon us, the Duluth Playhouse is in the midst of performing their rendition of “Annie” at the NorShor Theatre.
The classic Tony Award-winning Broadway musical is sure to warm hearts this holiday season.
This year, everyone’s favorite redhead will be played by two actresses: Cadence Graber and Sofia Salmela.
Both Graber and Salmela joined KBJR 6′s Kendall Jarboe and Hunter McCullough in studio to talk about the production.
What makes this version extra special is there is not just one Annie but two.
The Duluth Playhouse is planning on having 22 performances, so they needed to have an alternating cast to meet the demand.
“It’s a lot of fun because we are super close, and it’s nice to be with each other, and it’s cool seeing each other’s differences and how similar we are,” Graber said. “The sad thing is we never get to perform with each other because we play the same part.”
Live theatre had to make many changes during the pandemic, but this production of “Annie” provides a sense of normalcy for both the performers and viewers.
“During COVID I felt so sad and bored and doing theatre with actual people watching you is so much fun and makes you so happy,” Salmela said.
The actresses are thrilled to be back in front of a live audience this year.
“I kind of forgot what it felt like to perform in front of a huge audience, and then doing it again I was like ‘Wow. I forgot how awesome and cool this feels.’ It’s really nice to be back,” Graber said.
You can watch “Annie” at the NorShor Theatre now until December 19.
Showtimes are Thursday through Saturday are at 7:30 p.m.
