Sprinkler pipe bursts, displaces 20 plus tenants in Duluth
DULUTH, MN. (KBJR) - UPDATE: More than 20 people are without a home Tuesday night after a sprinkler pipe broke, flooding a Duluth apartment complex.
It happened around noon near West 3rd Street and North 13th Avenue West.
According to the Duluth Fire Department, a tenant reported her ceiling collapsed under the weight of water.
Tenants in the building evacuated before crews arrived.
13 units that more than 20 people call home are unlivable until cleanup and repairs are made.
The management company is helping them find temporary housing.
Damage is estimated at $350,000.
The Duluth Fire Department is responding to a collapsed ceiling in an apartment unit.
According to fire officials, crews are on scene near West 3rd Street and North 13th Avenue West.
They said a sprinkler system malfunctioned causing a ceiling in one of the units to collapse.
DFD said all tenants are out of the building.
As of 12:06 p.m. Tuesday, crews remain on scene investigating.
