Aurora woman, boy die in Iron Range crash; several others hurt
2:15 P.M. FRIDAY UPDATE: ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MN -- An Aurora woman and eleven-year old boy died and several others were hurt in a four-vehicle crash on the Iron Range Thursday afternoon.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash happened 3:55 p.m. on Highway 135 near Gilbert during snowy and icy conditions.
Authorities say a Toyota Corolla was heading west on Highway 135 at Indiana Avenue West when it lost control.
The Corolla crossed over the center line and hit a Toyota Yaris head-on. A Chevrolet Malibu then T-boned the Corolla and a Passat rear-ended the Chevrolet Malibu.
Authorities say the driver of the Corolla, Betty Jean Smith, 32, of Aurora, died.
A passenger in the Corolla, Dakota John Smith, 11, of Aurora, also died.
A 10-year-old girl in the Corolla is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
A six-year-old in the Corolla was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
The drivers of the Chevy Malibu, the Yaris, and the Passat all had minor injuries.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, everyone involved was wearing their seatbelt and alcohol was not a factor.
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MN (KBJR) - At least one person has died and several were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on the Iron Range Thursday.
Crews responded to the scene just before 4 p.m.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash occurred on Highway 135 near Gilbert.
Four vehicles were involved, which shut down the highway for five hours.
The Minnesota state patrol said one car traveling westbound on Highway 135 at Indiana Avenue West lost control and crossed into the eastbound lane hitting another car.
Two other cars crashed into them.
Three people are injured.
One is a child with life-threatening injuries.
They have been transported to local hospitals.
We are still waiting on information about the two other people involved in the crash.
Road conditions were snowy and icy at the time of the crash.
