DULUTH, MN. (KBJR6) - The Bulldogs are back home after sealing a road trip victory over Minot State last weekend. While the status of the starting QB is up in the air as it has been most of the season, one thing is for sure; the Dogs are feeling firey as they suit up for another ranked battle on home turf.

While UMD hasn’t seen dominance this year, they have seen depth, which was primarily apparent against the Beavers.

Through the air fifth-year, senior and quarterback Garrett Olson stepped in the starting role, going 10 for 23 with 106 passing yards on the game. Olson was accompanied by redshirt senior running back Wade Sullivan, who tallied two rushing TDs for the pack in his first 100 plus yards rushing game of the season.

Although the playoff picture is being painted with the Dogs in the mix, the strokes of Saturday’s game will reveal the true colors for UMD’s postseason potential.

“We knew going in that we were going to need to rely on Garrett to make plays down the stretch in the football game. You know Garrett Olson is a seasoned backup quarterback, and he was excited to get the opportunity to start. I thought he played well throughout the game, and Garrett’s a guy that knows our offense inside and out, and he did a good job adjusting on Saturday and getting out of Minot with a win,” said Wiese.

“After Bemidji, it was obviously a tough one; it was a great way to bounce back. It was a good overall team win. The defense came up with a lot of stops, and the offensive line played really well,” said Olson.

“We’ve got some things figured out. Guys are stepping up and going into this week. We have a good opponent in Augustana, and we look at it as an opportunity to prove ourselves to the nation and come out with a win and put us in that playoff picture,” said Sullivan.

Wiese says all three quarterbacks will be dressed and ready to go Saturday. UMD has a 1-0 game day mentality going into this weekend with no.17 Augie. So they plan to silence the noise of the rankings and turn up the noise at Malosky. The kick-off is at 1:05 and will be live on the My9 sports network.
