Essentia health is expanding its presence in Hermantown.
On Tuesday, a groundbreaking for the new Essentia Wellness center took place on the site of the former Hermantown Middle School.
The project is expected to create 150 construction jobs.
The 72,000 square foot building will host more than 200 employees, and be home to everything from a YMCA, to physical therapy services.
Project leaders estimate the center will serve roughly 1,000 visitors per day.
"It will be a gathering spot. Essentia will be there and they will be doing public programming, like public health," says project volunteer Mike Lundstrom. "They will have a major daycare center there to be able to contribute to the daycare needs in this area. So it is multipurpose with multiple partners to address the issues."
The $25 million facility is estimated to be completed by late summer 2019.
