A $50,000 dollar grant is coming in handy in creating a new recreation area in West Duluth.
Work on the Gary New Duluth Recreation Area sport court got underway Wednesday with a concrete pouring. The work is moving forward thanks to a grant presented last week from US Bank and the Minnesota Vikings.
Mark Boben with the GND Alliance says the grant is a solid start to the project.
"This is a great day for the Gary New Duluth Recreation Area. We're pouring the concrete slab for the new multi-activity sport court," says Boben. "We're gonna have basketball, pickleball, four square, hop scotch for the little guys. [It's a] major milestone in our project."
A community garden, and skate park will also be added.
Boben says they're working to raise the remaining $150,000 needed for the project, and have it finished by the end of the summer.
