Marathon, construction projects to plague weekend traffic on I-35

Posted: Updated:
DULUTH, MN -

Officials are expecting a jam-packed I-35 this weekend.

Due to the high amount of traffic headed to Duluth for Grandma's Marathon, as well as construction in Pine County, delays and backups should be expected for northbound traffic.

Marathon events officially begin on Thursday, and MnDOT expects heavy traffic in the days leading up to Saturday's race.

On I-35 from the South Pine County Line to the Snake River in Pine City, traffic is restricted to one lane in each direction, and northbound ramps at Highway 7 are closed.

MnDOT says highway ramp traffic is being detoured onto the northbound I-35 ramps at Highway 70 and Highway 11.

Anyone planning on traveling this weekend should allow extra travel time, come early and stay late, and also travel during off-peak times.

Alternate routes are also being advised.
