Some conflict between the heads of the Duluth Fire Department and the department's union.
Duluth Firefighters Local 101 has voted to censure Fire Chief Dennis Edwards and Deputy Chief Shawn Krizaj.
The union says the two are attempting to force the assistant chiefs and fire marshal out of the union, and believes they want to change the firefighters' conditions of employment without negotiating.
City officials are responding Tuesday saying the move comes after the city applied with the state to label assistant fire chiefs as "supervisory employees".
They say Duluth is the only city of its kind in the state that operates without supervisors beyond the chief and deputy chief.
Chief Edwards also responded Tuesday saying he will continue to work with Duluth firefighters to maintain and improve the excellent service the department provides.
