Exactly a year after a deadly tornado tore through northwest Wisconsin, the communities affected are coming together to heal.
It was May 16, 2017 when the longest on-the-ground tornado ever recorded in Wisconsin caused major destruction in several areas, but mostly in and around Chetek.
The severe weather killed a man, injured dozens, and caused $10 million in damage as it hit Polk, Barron, Rusk, and Price counties.
On Wednesday night, neighbors are gathering from 5-7 p.m. at the Chetek Airport Park for a look at how far they've come since. Property owners affected by the tornado will receive a free flowering crab tree.
