Smelters took over canal park Sunday afternoon for the annual 'Run Smelt Run' parade.
The event is a non-motorized, outdoor parade performance in celebration of the annual smelt run on Lake Superior.
The lively event featured masks, large puppets, and a Twin Cities brass band, the Brass Messengers.
There was also a stilt-walking Royal Guard, an energetic school of silver smelt puppet and mask dancers, followed by a musical procession featuring a giant Smelt Queen.
A man who calls himself 'Wizard Smelt' at the event says, "this parade in particular really engages with the a variety of artists so people from a whole lot of communities all just come together and give what they've been working on their costumes and their pieces every year most people will like to embellish a bit further so every year you come and see the same people and see what everyone is working on"
Following the parade, there was a smelt fry and dance at Zeitgeist.
