The message is simple: Be careful on the roads if you have to travel this weekend.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety has issued a travel advisory for Friday and Saturday during the winter storm.
Parts of the state will see snow and gale force winds, causing blizzard warnings.
Other parts will see severe thunderstorms, and flooding is even possible in some areas.

The State Patrol says it may be necessary to alter or cancel travel plans if conditions worsen in your area.
Over the past three years, State Patrol troopers and other law enforcement members have responded to more than 55,000 crashes due to snowy or icy road conditions, which caused 149 deaths and more than 15,500 injuries.
If you must drive this weekend, make sure all snow and ice have been cleared from windows, the hood of your vehicle, headlights and brake lights, as well as directional signals.
Make sure someone knows your travel plans if you are making a trip, and to put your seat belt on.
