This winter started out with a bang for area ski resorts, including Lutsen Mountain.
Kjersti Vick, the Marketing Manager Visit Cook County said "We've had a fantastic snow year. It started off with that big snowstorm in October and we've basically been getting snow every couple of weeks since then."
The snow storms we have seen so far this season have dropped around 81 inches of natural snow. Plus, the resort has been able to make more snow this year than any year before!
"We are so good on snow base right now, there's about 5 feet of snow on the runs right now in the man-made area runs. In the woods there's at least 3 feet of snow." says Vick.
With a solid base, Lutsen is planning on keeping more runs open for even longer this year.
Vick said, "We always ski until the end of April and so this year we've made enough snow to have even more runs. We guarantee at least 40 rounds by the second week of April and I think this year we will have way more than that until even the end of April."
Temperatures in the 30's during the day and still dropping below freezing at night make for perfect snow conditions, and allow for the runs to remain open.
"Springtime is my favorite skiing time. March is by far the best, the temperatures are great, the days are getting longer and the snow is in prime condition." Vick said.
On top of skiing, there are plenty of other events happening at Lutsen... including live music on the weekends.
