Duluth, Minn. native and Northern Michigan sophomore defenseman Phil Beaulieu has been named to the all-Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) second team, it was announced on Thursday.
Beaulieu is the highest-scoring defenseman in the country this season, having totaled 10 goals and 29 assists for the Wildcats. Those 39 points are the most for a Northern Michigan defenseman since the 1990-91 season.
It's the first career all-conference award for the former Duluth East standout, who was one of six Northern Michigan players to be honored.
The Wildcats are (23-13-3) overall this season and will open the WCHA playoffs this weekend against Bowling Green.
