Murder suspect heads to jury trial

ASHLAND COUNTY, WI -

A Barnes man facing homicide charges for the death of an Odanah man in Ashland will face a jury trial come October.

According to the criminal complaint, on February 25th Matthew Phillips Junior, 42, was asked by his girlfriend, Jennifer Mustache, to come over after her daughter said the victim, Marcus Holton, 52, had touched her leg multiple times.
 
Phillips' roommate allegedly drove him to Mustache's home and took her children to a nearby restaurant while Phillips stayed behind.

When they returned to the home Holton was dead. 
 
An autopsy determined Holton died of multiple injuries, including blunt and sharp force injuries to the head, and torso.

Both Mustache and Phillips face homicide charges. 


A Barnes man and an Ashland woman are facing homicide charges for the death of an Odanah man in Ashland late last month.

According to the criminal complaint, on February 25th, Matthew Phillips Junior, 42, was asked by his girlfriend, Jennifer Mustache,  to come to her home after her daughter said the victim, Marcus Holton, 52,had touched her leg multiple times. 

Mustache told police Holton had been staying at her home along 12th Avenue East.

The complaint goes on to say Phillips' roommate drove him to Mustache's home, and then took Mustache's children to a nearby restaurant.
Phillips stayed behind. 

When they returned to the home, Holton was dead.  

An autopsy determined Holton died of multiple injuries, including blunt and sharp force injuries to the head, and torso.

The suspects were arrested in Superior on February 27th.

Officers say when Mustache was arrested, she was in possession of two bags of meth. 

Both suspects are expected to appear in court next month.
