Joey Anderson netted two goals to lift the No. 7 University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) men's hockey team over No. 14 University of Nebraska-Omaha (UNO), ending the regular season with a 4-1 win and series split on Saturday night at AMSOIL Arena.
The Mavericks starting the scoring in the first period, but the Bulldogs' answered with the Esko native Karson Kuhlman's equalizer on a powerplay in the second period.
Kuhlman's goal was one of three for the Bulldogs in the second period, followed by Hibbing native Scott Perunovich and Joey Anderson to take a 3-1 lead.
Anderson tacked on his second goal of the night in the third period on a powerplay.
UMD outshot UNO 39-19, and the Bulldogs' goaltender Hunter Shepard made 18 saves.
After the win, the Bulldogs sit in the third spot in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) with 39 points.
UMD will host Western Michigan University in the first round in the upcoming NCHC playoffs in a best-of-three series starting March 9. A time is yet to be determined.
