The Hermantown and Duluth East boys' hockey teams learned their fate in the upcoming Minnesota State High School League state tournament on Saturday morning.
The top-ranked Hawks earned the number one seed overall in Class A. They will open up the tournament against unseeded Monticello/Annandale/Maple Lake (MAML)
Hermantown (20-6-2) and the MAML Moose (19-7-2) will face off in the quarterfinals March 7 at 6 p.m. at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.
It will be the Hawks' ninth straight state tournament appearance, and will be going for their third straight and fourth overall title.
In Class AA, No. 3 Duluth East earned a third-seed and will play unseeded St. Michael-Albertville in the quarterfinals.
It is the Greyhounds' first trip to the state tournament in three years. They haven't won a state championship since 1998.
Duluth East will face St. Michael-Albertville on March 8 at 1 p.m., also at Xcel Energy Center.
