Duluth East senior Luke LaMaster and Duluth Marshall senior Willy Stauber are both among 20 candidates for the 2018 Reed Larson Award, it was announced on Thursday.
The Reed Larson Award, in its sixth year, is given annually to the top senior defenseman in Minnesota. It will be presented next week at the state tournament banquet in St. Paul, Minn.
LaMaster has four goals and 39 assists this season for the Greyhounds, including three in the Section 7AA championship game. He has committed to play Division I college hockey for Wisconsin.
Stauber, meanwhile, finished the year with 10 goals and 21 assists while helping the Hilltoppers to their first-ever playoff win in Section 7AA.
The last two Larson Award winners came from Hermantown, with Dylan Samberg winning in 2017 and Wyatt Aamodt in 2016. Previous to that, Grand Rapids' Jake Bischoff won the inaugural award in 2013.
