In what might be last homecoming, Duluth's Randolph hoping for wins over UMD

Posted: Updated:

Duluth, Minn. native Jake Randolph has plenty of good memories at AMSOIL Arena, and this weekend might provide his last collegiate chance to make some more with Nebraska-Omaha.

"It's always special to come back here," Randolph said on Thursday. "To get to play in front of my friends and family, it's always fun."

Randolph and the Mavericks will close the regular season this weekend against the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD), a road trip that's always been a favorite of the former Duluth East standout.

"I would definitely say UMD's my favorite team to beat," Randolph said, smiling. "There's a lot of competitive blood there, and whoever wins has bragging rights over the summer. It makes for a competitive and special weekend. I'm looking forward to trying to beat them."

Randolph has one goal and five assists in his career against the Bulldogs, but that lone goal did not come at AMSOIL Arena. Depending on playoff seeding, this weekend may be his last chance to score against his hometown team in his hometown.

"That's the goal this weekend, to get that first one against them here," he joked. "More important, though, are the two wins we want to get here and try to go into the playoffs on a high note."

Friday's series opener will air live locally on My 9 Sports, while Saturday's finale is on Fox Sports North Plus. Both will start at 7:07 p.m.
