It's been nearly three years since UW-Superior initially made Nick Bursik its interim athletic director, and that interim tag was finally removed on Thursday afternoon.
Bursik will now continue on permanently in that role, one he's held since Steve Nelson retired from that position in September 2015.
"During the past several years, we have made some significant enhancements and improvements to further our commitment to offering an exception student-athlete experience," Bursik said in a statement. "I look forward to working with our staff, university, alumni and supporters in continuing that great work."
Bursik has overseen UW-Superior's transition to the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC), a league in which his programs have already won 14 conference championships. He's also responsible for overseeing the addition of men's and women's golf and tennis.
"His ability to think strategically, his focus on the student athlete experience," UW-Superior chancellor Renee Wachter said, "and his emphasis on building a positive culture of success for both the students and coaching staff will serve the program well. I know that outreach to the community is also a priority for him."
Bursik is a 2012 graduate of UW-Superior and had previously served three seasons as the school's head baseball coach before transitioning into the athletic director job.
