Rep. Jason Metsa announces campaign for MN Eighth Congressional District

Posted: Updated:

On Thursday morning, State Representative Jason Metsa announced he will run for Minnesota's Eighth Congressional District.

Metsa has served three terms in St. Paul, and is originally from Virginia, Minnesota.

In his announcement, he said he is running for Congress because "I know that we only make progress for Northern Minnesota families when we have each others' backs and stand up to fight for each other."

Metsa also said he vows to fight for care families can afford, work that pays what it's worth, and a level playing field for Minnesota familles.

Metsa joins an already crowded field of DFL candidates, including the following:

  • Former State Representative Joe Radinovich
  • North Branch Mayor Kirsten Kennedy
  • Former Duluth news anchor Michelle Lee
  • Former FBI counter terrorism analyst Leah Phifer

In addition, Vietnam veteran and former corrections officer Ray "Skip" Sandman, is running as an Independent.

St. Louis County Commissioner and retired Duluth Police Officer Pete Stauber is running on the Republican ticket.
