Superior, Wis. native and UW-Superior senior guard Hailey Kontny has been named the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) women's basketball player of the year, it was announced on Wednesday.
It's the third straight season Kontny has won the award, this time after averaging 15.9 points and 6.6 rebounds a game while leading the Yellowjackets to a third straight appearance in the NCAA Division III tournament.
She passed the 1,000-point plateau this season and is the first player since St. Scholastica's Jackie Plesha (2002-05) to earn three straight player of the year awards.
Kontny also earned a spot on the UMAC's all-defensive team, that after the Yellowjackets led the league this season allowing just 45.5 points per game. UW-Superior went (16-0) in the conference regular season this year and is now a perfect (48-0) since joining the UMAC in 2015-16.
She was also joined on the all-UMAC first team by teammate Hannah Norlin, while first-year head coach Zach Otto-Fisher was named the UMAC coach of the year.
