Hermantown native Aamodt, UMD recruit Cates win USHL honors

HERMANTOWN, MN -

Hermantown, Minn. native and Lincoln Stars defenseman Wyatt Aamodt has been named the United States Hockey League (USHL) defenseman of the week, it was announced on Monday afternoon.

Aamodt tallied four assists this past weekend in wins over Fargo and Waterloo, stretching his current point streak to five games. The MSU-Mankato commit now has two goals and 11 assists this season.

University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) commit Jackson Cates, meanwhile, was named the USHL's forward of the week. He scored four goals and added an assist in two games for Waterloo Blackhawks, and he's now third in the league with 50 points (27 goals, 23 assists).

Cates is expected to join UMD as a freshman in the 2018-19 season.
