UPDATE: Two suspects in custody following Ashland homicide

ASHLAND, WI -

2/28/18 -- Ashland Police say two suspects are now in custody just days after the discovery of a body inside an Ashland home. 

Investigators say a man and a woman were arrested Tuesday, with help from the Duluth and Superior Police Departments, and the Bayfield County Sheriff's Department.

The suspects are currently awaiting formal charges. 

This comes one day after police identified the victim as Marcus Holton, 52, of Odanah, Wisconsin.

2/27/18 -- Police have identified the victim found inside an Ashland home as Marcus Holton, 52, of Odanah, Wisconsin.

Officers were called to a home on 12th Avenue East just after 11:30 Sunday night for a welfare check. 

Police say they had to force their way inside the home after no response and several attempts of knocking on the door. 

The Wisconsin State Crime Lab, as well as the State Patrol, are helping to process the scene.

Holton's cause of death is still unknown at this time. 

Police say they have a person of interest, and also have a number of leads they are following.

Officials also say this appears to be an isolated incident. 

We spoke with neighbors living near the scene who say they heard nothing Sunday night when the homicide allegedly occurred. They also told us, few people knew or even saw who was living inside the house at the time.


2/26/18 -- Police say they are treating the death of a man in the city of Ashland as a homicide.

Officers were called to a home on 12th Avenue East just after 11:30 Sunday night for a welfare check. 

Police say they had to force their way inside the home after no response and several attempts of knocking on the door. 

The Wisconsin State Crime Lab, as well as the State Patrol, are helping to process the scene.

An autopsy will be conducted in Madison. 

Police say they have a person of interest, and also have a number of leads they are following.

Officials also say this appears to be an isolated incident. 

The victim's name will be released once all family members are notified.
