In what was most likely her final collegiate game at Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium, Superior, Wis. native Hailey Kontny scored a game-high 27 points to lead the University of Wisconsin Superior (UWS) women's basketball team to its third straight UMAC tournament championship on Saturday.
Despite trailing by two at the half, UWS got 17 second half points from Kontny to defeat Bethany Lutheran 66-54. The senior guard scored 40 points in two postseason games, earning UMAC tournament MVP honors.
Hannah Norlin and Duluth, Minn. native Eva Reinersten were second on the team with eight points apiece in the winning effort.
Dating back to the 2014-15 season, including the postseason, the Yellowjackets have won 54 consecutive conference games.
UWS (23-4) receives an automatic bid into the NCAA III women's basketball tournament, with the team's first-round opponent to be announced in the NCAA Selection Show on Monday.
