Multiple vehicle crashes tie up traffic on I-35 near Can of Worms interchange.

UPDATE: It was a busy morning for the Minnesota State Patrol.

According to sergeant Neil Dickenson, during the morning commute the patrol responded to at least 11 crashes in the Duluth area alone including this pileup on I-35 near Lincoln Park.

Dickenson says the crash involved at least 10 cars in both the northbound and southbound lanes.

While our roads have significantly less snow cover than Thursday, Dickenson reminds drivers to be cautious as there are still plenty of slick spots on the highways.

"We're seeing far too many crashes and again the number one thing people can do is slow down, increase your following distance. If something happens in front of you you're able to avoid crashing into somebody or losing control of your car," said Dickenson.

With temperatures back below zero, Dickenson says salt is less effective than usual, leaving roads icy.

At least four crashes near the Can of Worms Interchange on I-35 in Duluth caused traffic woes for Twin Ports drivers Friday morning.

MnDOT reported three crashes in the southbound lanes, and a fourth in the northbound lanes.

One of the crashes reportedly involved at least a dozen vehicles.
