A somber update Thursday night in Minnesota's flu outbreak.
The Minnesota Department of Health has reported the first child death due to the flu this season.
No word on where the child was from or when they died.
The news comes as the flu is considered to be widespread across the state with more than 1,700 people hospitalized this season.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services reports that at the end of the year just over 800 people had tested positive for the flu.
Adding that especially high levels were reported in the northwestern part of the state.
