Road conditions listed as ice covered, crashes reported

MnDOT and WisDOT say roads are extremely slippery throughout the Northland.

According to WisDOT, Highway 53 and Highway 2 are listed as ice covered.

Highways 51, 63 and 70 are all listed as having slippery stretches.

Black ice could be possible throughout many areas. 

MnDOT has I-35 listed as partially covered, with the following highways listed as either partially or fully covered with ice: 

  • MN 210 between MN 73 near Cromwell and MN 23 two miles east of the Thomson area
  • MN 23 between I-35 near Sandstone and Grand Avenue Place near Proctor; between Beaudry Street and I-35 near Proctor
  • MN 61 between Brighton Beach road and Pigeon River Bridge; Canadian border
  • MN 194 between U.S. 53; Joshua Avenue and I-35
  • U.S. 53 between I-35; I-535 and Arkola Road
  • MN 194 between U.S. 2; Saginaw Road and U.S. 53 near Hermantown
  • I-535 between the start of I-535 and I-35; U.S. 53 - look out for black ice
  • U.S. 2 between South Aune Road near Brookston and I-35; between I-35 and the end of U.S. 2
  • MN 39 between MN 23; West McCuen Street and the Wisconsin state line
  • MN 61 between London Road and Congdon Boulevard
  • I-35 between Exit 237; MN 33 near Scanlon and the end of I-35

MnDOT also reported one crash near exit 220 in the northbound lanes of I-35 in Carlton County near Barnum.
