Ashland breaks record for temperature on New Year's Eve Day

ASHLAND, WI -

The Northland, as a whole, closed out 2017 down-right cold, with some areas reaching a new record high, and others getting in the top five coldest New Year's Eve days.

Ashland reached -7 Fahrenheit, a new record in the city.

The previous record was -5.

Brainerd, Hibbing, International Falls and Duluth all made it into the top five coldest New Year's Eve days.

In fact, all official reporting locations in the Northland made it into the top-5 coldest high temperature list for New Years Eve.

Below is a list of the record lowest high temperatures across the region. 

Duluth: (tied for 3rd coldest)

  • -16°F (1967)
  • -9°F (1968)
  • -8°F (2017 & 2013)
  • -7°F (1973, 1927 & 1923)

International Falls: (tied for 5th coldest)

  • -22°F (1967)
  • -16°F (2013 & 1973)
  • -12°F (1908)
  • -11°F (2017 & 1923)

Brainerd: (2nd coldest)

  • -8°F (1927)
  • -5°F (2017)
  • -4°F (2013 & 1946)

Hibbing: (3rd coldest)
