The No. 17 University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) Men's hockey team defeated Dartmouth in a shootout to earn the 2017 Ledyard Classic title on Saturday night in Hanover, New Hampshire at Thompson Arena.
UMD and Dartmouth finished regulation with a 2-2 tie which resulted in a 2-2 overtime tie. To earn the Ledyard Classic title, one team would have to win in a shootout.
Kobe Roth, and Peter Krieger lifted UMD to the championship title with goals in the shootout. While the Bulldogs prevailed in the end, it was several pieces that pushed them to that victorious end.
Sophomore goaltender, Hunter Shepard made a career-high 41 saves for UMD, and allowed two goals.
UMD's overall record improved to (10-9-2) ahead of National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) series against Colorado College on the road.
