Hermantown scores four goals in third period, earns Hilltopper Classic title for fourth-straight year
The No. 2 Hermantown High School boys' hockey team scored four times in the third period to beat No. 12 Duluth Marshall in the Hilltopper Classic tournament for the fourth-straight year at Mars Lakeview Arena on Friday afternoon.
The Hawks beat the Hilltoppers 4-3.
Class A's Hermantown was down 1-0 until Tyler Watkins scored less than two minutes into the third period to tie the game.
Class AA's Duluth Marshall found momentum by scoring back-to-back goals to take a 3-1 lead from Levi Stauber, and Peter Hansen.
But shortly after, Elliott Peterson, Darian Gotz, and Watkins scored three unanswered goals to give the Hawks the victory.
Watkins finished with three points, two goals and one assist, for Hermantown.
Hawks' goaltender Cole Manahan made 24 saves, and allowed three goals. Marshall's Cam Brandt made 22 saves, and allowed four goals.
Hermantown's overall record improved to (5-3-2), while Marshall's dropped to (8-3-1).
