Governor Mark Dayton is weighing on a new beginning for Nashwauk's Mesabi Metallics after emerging from bankruptcy.
Chippewa Capital Partners, LLC can now finish construction on the former Essar plant, obtain the necessary financing and operating agreements and begin production following Friday's formal court filing.
In a statement Thursday, Governor Dayton thanked the company for expediting debt payments last week, over three years ahead of schedule, according to company officials.
"It's a very important step," Dayton said.
Dayton added the critical step forward means more jobs for the Iron Range.
India-based Essar declared bankruptcy in 20-15.
