Starting New Year's Day, the Minnesota Department of Transportation will be accepting applications for a new road construction materials permit.
The permit will allow companies and anyone hauling road construction materials to carry up to 90,000 pounds of gross vehicle weight on six or more axles, and 97,000 gross vehicles weight on seven or more axles.
The current gross weight limit for vehicles without an overweight permit is 80,000 pounds.
Vehicles operating under the permit are required to comply with individual and group axle weight limits and gross weight vehicle limits set by the permit.
The new permit costs $300 for six-axle vehicles, and $500 for seven axle vehicles.
It will be valid only on Minnesota state roads, and is not valid on interstate highways.
Although MnDOT will not start accepting applications until New Year's Day, you can now begin the application process for a permit here.
