DULUTH, MN -

A local painter is about to embark on a mural that will turn a blank West Duluth store front into a childhood favorite.

Tortoise and the Hare is not only a childcare's book, it's also the name of a shoe store on the corner of 40th Avenue West and Grand Avenue.

The blank side of the building is poised to be painted.

The mural will include four parts, each showcasing a piece of Duluth's hillside, as well as a scene from the famous childcare's story.
Ely's point, Spirit Mountain, Denfeld School, and the lift bridge will be featured in the completed 80 foot by 14 foot mural.

"Growing up in this area you fall in love with the nature and everything else. And when they said that is what they want in it, the whole Duluth hillside, the prominent spots to look at, it was so exciting," said artist Tom Napoli.

The mural is scheduled to be completed by the 2018 Grandma's Marathon.
