The U.S. National Junior Team got off to a good start in the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship on Tuesday, defeating Denmark 9-0 at KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York.
Team USA scored five goals in the first period and dominated Denmark for the entire 60 minutes. Hermantown, Minn. native Dylan Samberg, making his first World Junior Championship appearance, scored the final goal of the game, with the assist going to Hibbing, Minn. native Scott Perunovich.
Samberg and Perunovich are joined by their University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) teammates Riley Tufte and Joey and Mike Anderson on Team USA.
The Americans outshot Denmark 27-17.
The U.S. will return to action on Thursday, December 28 when it squares off with Slovakia in its second game of the World Junior Championship.
